 The question today is: does this tradition continue with the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton?

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (then Lady Elizabeth), began the tradition when she married King George VI (then Duke of York) on April 26, 1923. Ring of Her Majesty Clogau a nugget that was owned by a Mr. Bartholomew at the time. It was later redesigned by the famous  

cocktail dress 

designer, WJL Bertollo, by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to give to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II when they married in Westminster Abbey November 20, 1947.

The tradition has continued with other members of the royal family. These include Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowden, in 1960, Princess Anne, Princess Royal, in 1973, Diana, evening dress,gown,Princess of Wales and Prince Charles in 1981 and Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, in 2005.

What makes Clogau cherished nugget is based on top-down fortunes of the mine since the beginning. Gold veins themselves are very difficult to locate and are "inconsistent" at best.
